  Hitachi, Ltd, started out in 1910 as a humble electrical repair shop for a copper mining company in Japan. Today, the company has over 1,000 subsidiaries with a staff strength of over 328,000 employees world wide and an annual sales of US $67,879 million in fiscal year 2000 (ended 31 March 2001). This growing success has enabled Hitachi to become one of the world's most established brand name in the electronics industry. Besides being a household name in home appliances, Hitachi produces a diverse range of products from semiconductors to power plants and was ranked in the 8th position within Asia and 22nd on a global basis, by Fortune.com*.
